Everybody in the city knows about Tsim Sha Tsui for a waterfront walk, but not many people have heard about Kwun Tong Promenade.
Kwun Tong is an old industrial estate, filled with old buildings housing hundreds of factories and warehouses. Doesn’t sound too attractive.
The government has started a redevelopment plan for the district and already several glass towers have popped up.
Our aim was to see the waterfront promenade and on the way we witnessed nightlife in an industrial area. You’d think everything would be deserted after office hours, but not in Kwun Tong!
Factories and shipping companies work round the clock, lorries drive around at top speed, food stalls are out on the pavements…
In contrast the promenade is sleek and glamorous. Grassy areas, wooden walkways, glass landmarks with light and water displays. It’s really nicely done and feels relaxing.
It made me realise that Tsim Sha Tsui promenade was only built for tourism.
I hope we will see more green and relaxing waterfront promenades in the future… And I will surely return to explore Kwun Tong.
Please excuse the bad picture of the food stalls.
