In Hong Kong everything is about who you know, so networking is vital.
It’s so vital that apparently only entry level or unskilled jobs are advertised; all the other jobs find candidates by word of mouth.
So if you want a decent job, you gotta know people.
Of course, there are many websites and associations to find out about the next networking event.
I’m not too keen on standing around at posh cocktail parties surrounded by expats who think they’re the bee’s knees, so we decided to join a treasure hunt.
We thought it would be a fun way to get to meet people. And it was.
There were approx. 45 people divided into 6 groups. All groups were given a list of numerous places to find, each place awarding a certain number of points. The group with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
Thing is the list of place is quite long so teams need to come up with strategies of where to go and not go to get to the finishing point on time.
Our team was a mixture of expats and locals but everyone was outgoing and we all got on well. It was really fun but running around in 27ºC for 4 hours got us exhausted.
Once the hunt was over our team went for a quick drink and we discovered that many of us have common interest such as diving, hiking and being French (that’s not a hobby but you get the gist).
All in all it was great fun and a great way to discover the city!
